Position Description
The Project Manager will join the Project Management department, which oversees and coordinates all aspects of the project, from budget planning and scheduling to final testing and commissioning at the customer’s site.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex industrial automation, robotics, material handling, and warehouse automation projects from contract award through final commissioning and customer acceptance, ensuring project objectives are achieved safely, on time, and within budget.
- Serve as the primary customer-facing representative throughout the project lifecycle, building strong relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders while proactively managing expectations, risks, and project communications.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams consisting of software, controls, electrical, mechanical, installation, and commissioning resources to ensure seamless integration of hardware and software systems and successful project execution.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, resource plans, risk mitigation strategies, and project performance metrics, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, quality standards, and company processes.
- Oversee the implementation and integration of automated systems including robotics, conveyor systems, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), warehouse management systems (WMS), and production line automation solutions.
- Manage project scope, contract modifications, and customer change requests while assessing impacts to cost, schedule, resources, and technical deliverables, and driving resolution through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead project reviews, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning activities, and final system validation to ensure customer requirements, operational performance targets, and quality expectations are met.
- Monitor project financial performance, including forecasting, cost control, invoicing milestones, and profitability, while providing regular status updates and executive-level reporting to leadership and customers.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of project management experience in industrial automation, robotics, material handling systems, warehouse automation, manufacturing, logistics, or related engineering environments
- BA or master’s degree in engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of advanced information systems, ERP, BI tools, and project management software
- Experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams including software, controls, electrical, mechanical, and automation engineers
- Experience overseeing system commissioning, startup, site acceptance testing (SAT), factory acceptance testing (FAT), and customer handover activities
- Familiarity with industrial automation technologies, robotics systems, PLCs, HMI/SCADA systems, industrial networks, and automated material handling equipment
- Understanding of warehouse distribution operations, manufacturing production lines, end-of-line packaging systems, and logistics automation processes
- Familiarity with key tools and methodologies for business process analysis and continuous improvement
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Customer relationship management abilities
- Solid time, cost, scope, and risk management skills
- Experience managing project schedules, budgets, vendors, subcontractors, and commissioning activities
- Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience delivering industrial automation, robotics, warehouse automation, ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems), conveyor systems, AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles), AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots), palletizing systems, or material handling projects
- Experience supporting automated distribution centers, fulfillment centers, manufacturing plants, production lines, food & beverage facilities, consumer goods operations, or logistics environments
- Demonstrated experience managing and successfully completing capital equipment, automation, or systems integration projects valued at $5M+
- Experience coordinating software, controls, electromechanical, and hardware integration activities throughout the project lifecycle
- Knowledge of PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff), industrial networking, SCADA, and warehouse management systems (WMS)
- Familiarity with robotics integration, machine vision, industrial IoT, predictive maintenance, and Industry 4.0 technologies
- PMP certification from PMI (or equivalent project management certification)
- Proficiency in a second foreign language (Italian, Spanish)
